A Guide to the Director's Office Records of Trustees' Meetings
Scope and Contents of the Records
The collection consists of materials from Board of Trustees’ meetings from the Director's Office, and span the tenures of David Brooke, George Heard Hamilton, and Michael Conforti. There is one file for each meeting, containing the Director's report, minutes, handwritten notes, annotated reports, agendas, reports from committees, and / or reports from other departments to the Director. The information contained in the collection ranges from financial planning and staffing decisions to loan requests and purchases of artwork. Series I covers 1966 through 1992; Series II 1992 through 2009.

Restrictions on Access
Any materials from Clark board meetings or Trustee committee meetings are permanently closed to the public, as are occasional documents pertaining to personnel matters, donors and donations, and other sensitive issues. Researchers with no Art Institute affiliation who wish to access records older than 50 years from the date of creation may be considered upon written request to the Archivist.
History of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute
In 1950 Sterling and Francine Clark chartered the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute as a home for their extensive art collection. Opened to public in 1955, the Institute has built upon this extraordinary group of works to become one of the most beloved and respected art museums in the world, known for its intimate galleries and stunning natural environment. One of the few institutions in the United States that combines a public art museum with a complement of research and academic programs, including a major art history library, the Clark is a leading international center for research and discussion on the nature of art and art history.

These records were moved to the Clark Art Institute Archives after 1988.

These records are stored in the Clark Art Institute Archives.
Processing Information
Lacy Schutz, archivist, and Dani Ryan, archives assistant, processed these records in April 2007. Staples were removed and materials were re-housed in acid free folders and boxes.
Preliminary inventory of the 2011 Accrual was conducted January 2011 by Justin A. Hunt. Materials were re-housed in acid free boxes.
The finding aid was revised by Mario Cesareo in March, 2022. The previous container lists have been attached as supplements. The collection has been expanded into two series: Series I from 1966 -1992; Series II ranges from 1992-2009. Staples and paperclips were removed.
