Scope and Contents of the Records
The Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing celebrates informed, insightful, and accessible prose that advances the public understanding and appreciation of the visual arts. Recipients of the Clark Prize are distinguished for critical or historical writing that conveys complex ideas in a manner that is grounded in scholarship yet appealing to a diverse range of audiences.
Currently this collection consists of one object, an uninscribed archival copy of the award itself. Designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the object is made of glass and etched with the following, "The Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing Award designed by Tadao Ando."

These records document the Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing.
Custodial History
This object was transferred to the Archives from the Communications department.
Acquisition Information
As per the records management schedule, records relating to the Clark Prize should be transferred to the Archives ten years after their inception. An archival copy of the award was transferred to the Archives in April 2009. The first paper records should be transferred in 2017.
Location of Originals
This collection is kept in Archives East.
Processing Information
The award was kept in its cotton pouch, and placed in an acid-free box surrounded by crumpled up acid free tissue paper.
