Charles White: Progress of the American negro (1939-40), October 3, 1998 - January 3, 1999

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents note

In this special installation, the Clark considered Charles White's large-scale mural, Progress of the American Negro, in light of White's abiding interest in African American history, the under-appreciated role of African American artists in the WPA and the New Deal, and that era's emphasis on public art.
